As the Holiday season approaches we are all inundated with requests for donations for various charities. I am writing to ask you to consider one that you may or may not have heard of. It’s called the Seahawk Support Circle. Its mission is to assist students of Hilton Head High School who are struggling financially.
The Seahawk Support Circle is headed up by the Hilton Head High School PTA who collects and distributes donations in the form of gift cards for food, clothing, gas, and basic necessities. Last year there was more than $16,000 distributed in gift cards among many other items which assisted over 250 students.
Most folks do not realize the level of poverty that exists on Hilton Head Island. Over 40 percent of all students at Hilton Head High are on the free or reduced lunch program with most of them receiving free lunches. We are asking you to consider helping in one of the following ways:
- Write a check to HHIHS PTSO “Seahawk Support Circle” and drop at the Green Thumb or at the High School.
- Purchase gift cards to local grocery stores or gas stations and drop at the High School in an envelope addressed to HHIHS PTSO “Seahawk Support Circle”.
Attached is a flyer that goes into more depth on the program and how to help. If you have any questions feel free to call me. These kids are not going to ask for help from the community, but they will ask for or be identified as someone in need of help at the High School.
